The Newfoundland Writers' GuildSeptember Retreat for Members of the Newfoundland Writer's GuildThe retreat at White Sails Inn will take place Sept 10-13. For more information please contact Georgina Queller.WordFest 2010WordFest will take place on September 26 at Newman’s Wine Vault on Water St. The date coincides with Doors Open in St. John’s, and with Culture Days, which is being held across Canada. The readers have been selected by the WordFest committee. The committee’s intention was to select writers who have received a special honour or award this year, as well as several writers who are less familiar at the WordFest podium. Readers for WordFest 2010 are: Helen Porter, Gerry Rubia, , Bernice Morgan, Janet McNaughton, Trudy Morgan Cole, Tina Chaulk, Dylan Seaward, Cathy Daly and Ellen Reid.Piper’s Frith: Writing at Kilmory Resort, October 12 - 16, 2010The Literary Arts Foundation of Newfoundland & Labrador invites established and emerging writers to join Jessica Grant (fiction), Mary Dalton (poetry) and Kevin Major (prose) for small-group workshops and one-on-one mentoring. Social evenings and peaceful, stunning surroundings enhance this intensive four-day experience. Piper’s Frith takes place at beautiful Kilmory Resort amidst the wildness of the Burin Peninsula. Bursaries for Piper's Frith available The Literary Arts Foundation NL can offer a few partial bursaries to those writers who wish to participate in Piper's Frith, but for whom financial considerations may make this difficult to impossible. Bursaries can only be provided to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador at this time. Preference will be given to those who must travel from outside the Avalon or Burin peninsulas, but all residents of the province may apply. To apply for a bursary at the time of application, please include a brief statement indicating you are seeking a bursary, whether your participation at the Frith will be impossible or very difficult due to financial constraints, and what travel costs you would incur to get to Kilmory.The Page April 2010The latest edition of The Page is now available on line. Stories can be fiction or non-fiction. They have asked for stories that are up-beat and positive. This is not going to be a book just for the Writers' Guild and there will be no editing of stories by us prior to submission to Flanker.
